SIXERS: 76ers acquire Songaila, Brackins for Green, Smith - 9/23/2010

SIXERS: 76ers acquire Songaila, Brackins for Green, Smith - 9/23/2010

not a big trade or anything.. but nonetheless... BIG NEWS.

sometimes i question wilie greens decisions. hes a score only guard.. and hes not even a good scorer. i appreciate that he came off the bench and provided a spark on the offense sometimes.. but this is for the best.

i suspected willie was on his way out when we traded for jodie meeks.. and then we drafted evan turner which only made this more inevitable.

good luck to willie green.

and jason smith.. i liked jason smith.. he was injured for most of his career here.. but there was something about his play that made me like him. when u watch him.. u can see that hes eager to play well for us. not afraid to get his jersey dirty. can hit the midrange shot pretty well. hes a good teammate. but he probably didnt get a good chance cuz of his injuries.

good luck to u too jason smith.

on the other hand.. i wanted the team to get bigger/taller.. and we did. but i dunno how this will work out. we got two midpost players out of it. songaila's a hustleman, so thats good. brackins is unproven yet so i dont kno wut he has to offer other than the midrange shot. but we'll see.

looks like we'll play a little bigger anyway.. cuz we got nocioni cuz they liked him. and im sure theyre gonna find him some time. but he plays the 3/4 position.. 4 spot just got even more crowded. so i guess we'll prolly slide him up to the 3 most of the time.. iggy or thad can slide up and play the 2 anyway.

overall:
we didn't get fortify the the lowpost defense like i wanted.. but we did get taller.. so i'm gonna call this a toss up.

Sixers Expectations

havent updated in a long time.. been keepin busy with school and all.

anyway.. talk of fantasy league is starting.. soooo started to get excited about the new season.. just wanted to lay some things i expect to see from the sixers this upcoming seasons.

not concerned with the fillers.. soo ill just name the expected depth chart according to the relevant players.
pg - jrue holiday, lou will
sg - evan turner, willie green
sf - andre iguo, thad young
pf - elton brand, andres nocioni
c - spencer hawes, marrese speights

in reality, you could put thad anywhere from 2-4.. sooo got some flexibility here to play however we want. i dont really like speights as the backup center, but considering the rest of the big guys, i dont see anyone else that can even try to fill it out.

offensively: i want free flowing offense. most of this is up to the coach. be we've got enough unselfish players to be able to make the extra pass each time down the court.
- Jrue, AI, and ET seem to all be very unselfish. maybe too unselfish.. people think that it wont work becuz ET and AI are too alike. but i happen to think that it makes the lineup more versatile. but to actually make this work.. 1 of those 3 has to be more selfish. and i would like that person to be jrue. hes a good passer, but to get more open looks for the team he's going to have to make the opposition play him more honestly.. and that should open up for better perimeter play. id also like to see more pick n roll situations with him and any of the big guys since all of them can shoot from a decent range.

- elton brand... this is your last chance before they give the starting spot permanently to speights. all i expect from you is to stop looking so old. u still got a midrange touch. but what made you an attractive free agent was your toughness inside getting boards.

- iggy... shoot less 3s... take a lesson from luol deng or josh smith.. you'll become way more efficient if you stop taking 3s. now with a better perimeter, you should see immediate improvement in overall offense. im sorry but watching you in FIBA play made me more confident in that statement.. could barely hit the fiba 3pt line. but everything else youre doing is fine. congrats on the Gold medal btw

- ET - i just hope youre a fast learner. didnt do too well in summer play. and if you play like that, the fans of philly are QUICKLY going to "turn" on u.. hehe. but youre an all around player. so there shouldnt be any expectations but to keep your ears and eyes into the game. watch gametape. i hope they let him play through his mistakes early that way they'll somewhat be ironed out by midseason.

- lou will.. sorry but i think this is your destiny.. as a combo guard.. it is best to play you behind jrue and as the 1st option off the bench for the 1-2 spot.

Defensively: i want the team with heart... like 2001. everybody helps out defensively. suffocating D leading to fastbreak opportunities.
- speights.. work on your defense for gods sake. i believe you can score and your athleticism allows you to get more boards.. but ur glaring weaknesses are at your post play defense. this year you'll probably be asked to play more center. so i expect you to at least put on some more muscle to slowem down.

- noce - i dont really expect much from noce this season becuz i think we're invested in our players at his positions more closely.. but i love the toughness and heart he brings.. hopefully thats contagious. its about time the team got a little nasty streak. havent had toughness since ai brought them to the finals.

- perimeter play.. i think this is the best thing about the team right now. and i would love for it to be our signature trait. we've good size from 1-3. although its untested yet becuz ET has yet to play an actual game.. but he was one of the better defenders in college and i hope it translates. a suffocating perimeter will open up the fastbreak game. and i believe we've got some of the more athletic wings in the game.

- post play.. i dont think we're gonna be too strong here.. it depends on how tough elton gets.. but that would be our only upside to defense. the best thing to do here is either find a defense big man to plug in at times.. or be more communicative. most of this will come from the coach too.. but its important players kno exactly how to rotate and how to play their matchup each night.

postseason expectations?
i think we'll sneak into playoffs.. but tahts about it. depends on the coach.. sixers have it rough in the past couple of years because of all the staff changes.. if you think about it.. the cavs got worse... the raptors got worse. so thats two spots we're jumping over. jurys out on the bobcats... i thought felton was an integral part of their success. the bottom two seeds are always a toss up because the gap between decent teams and bad teams in the east is big. but i think we'll end up as 7 or 8 with a first round exit.

i kno... im a sixers fan.. but im realistic.. i hope everything clicks this year for us.. but it would be illogical to expect them to jump 7 spots in the east.

Go read DimeMag

this was a GREAT piece. i wanted to share it with everybody.

DimeMag's Austin Burton: Hater’s Ball: There’s Nothing Wrong with LeBron going to Miami

go read it now! im not gonna quote any of it, cuz u should read it in its entirety.

now just wanted to add some things. becuz ive been reading the comments.. and ill quote this one:

the cynic says:

it means Lebron can’t handle the pressure of being the man so he is going to let Wade handle the crunch time plays

cynic... ur an IDIOT.

Pedro says:

Who’s your daddy Lebron?

Wade is..

Coward, Coward, Coward

Kobe Bryant is the real deal…

ur a dumbass.

leGroin says:

so whose team is it now?

its all three of theirs. they all joined forces so that it wouldn't be an individual effort.

anyway. just sayin these people should read the article.. cuz it'll open up ur eyes. and if it doesn't, then ur just stubborn and u dont understand the business of winning in the NBA.

IguodaLOVE

alright if you've read my past entries it MIGHT look like i have no love for iggy. i've said that trading him was an option. but it's misleading because i'm just looking out for the future of this franchise. i would love to keep iggy on this team. i was just saying that BECUZ brand seems like an immovable contract, we should look into shedding some money with our ONLY real asset that people would consider worth trading for. and the only reason i think thats an option is because, even though i love what he brings, he's being overpaid. we paid him franchise money but he's not a franchise player. it's been his team for awhile and it feels like he's just not there. he's had his clutch shining moments.. but the moments are too far between each other.

anyway.. after we drafted evan turner (as expected.. and if that didn't happen, i wrote a letter to my congressman asking him to destroy the arena) i got excited once again. soo yeaaa i've been on youtube lookin at season highlights and wanted to share this andre iguodala video i stumbled upon. iggy's nasty man.. i never questioned it. its just not franchise nasty. thats why i love this evan turner pick.. the offense is gonna get moving more.. and contrary to popular belief.. iggy is not a dominant ball handler.. it worked fine when andre miller was here. so i'm expecting to see a lot more production from iggy this year. jrue and evan are good distributors with exceptional court vision.. soo seeing an iggy cut or iggy-oop will be a staple in the offense this upcoming season... enjoy!

Sixers Will Draft Evan Turner, According to Sixers' Website

Sixers Will Draft Evan Turner, According to Sixers' Website

im sure most of you saw this the other day. well i just think thats GREAT!

its no secret that doug collins has been heard to say that he absolutely likes derrick favors so that there was a slight possibility that wed take him at 2.. but hearing this gives me good assurance.

this makes the most sense for the short term part and financial part of this team. short term.. he's going to help out our offense immediately.. lets face it... we're not an offensive team. we were barely good at anything but what we did get right the most was defense. now thats great to have defense run our team.. but when the fastbreaks don't work.. we have to have a better half court set... and this will help us get the ball moving. financially this is good too because evan turner has the potential to get us selling tickets again. it was announced during a tnt game that sixers were in the bottom 5 of stadium attendance. so yes.. i believe the organization is suffering a bit.

plus favors is a project.. he's not going to be great right away. he'd be buried deep into the bench and will probably only get like 10-15 mins a game if that. and chance are.. it will be out of position because he's taller than brand and speights is undersized (strength wise) at center. so we don't really reap the benefits of favors yet. thus making us have another miserable season. and sucking the money out of the organizations wallet.

top 5 Mock Draft 1.0

1 - Washington Wizards - John Wall
in my opinion.. i really believe that down the line, the wizards will trade gilbert arenas. wizards cleaned house this past season. their core just got younger by trading out c. butler and a. jamison.. if you think this young team can win with just gilbert arenas you're wrong. john wall deserves to be the #1 pick no matter what team won the lottery. with this young core.... and john wall.. i dont see how they can coexist.. maybe dump arenas to the 2.. but lets face it.. both of these guys need the ball to be affective.

2 - Philadelphia 76ers - Evan Turner
i think this makes the most sense. they just traded dalembert so yea theyre missing a piece of defense. but the next best center in the draft is demarcus cousins, and for a young team.. i dont think hes right for its mentality. sources say hes got off-court issues.. and his attitude might be a problem. sixers need to add to its offense anyway. evan turner has proved to be an all-around type of player.. his ballhandling skills are up to point guard level.. soo moving the offense will be smoother.

3 - New Jersey Nets - Derrick Favors
people are saying this is a tough one for them.. but i think its a blessing in surprise.. if they WERE the #1 pick.. it would be tough to play john wall and devin harris without truly giving devin harris a run as the franchise player. really.. they would be in the wizards shoes right now. but since theyre #3, derrick favors is the best fit, best choice, and best prospect available. this is a young team. and they have a VERY promising young core. derrick favors has a lot of upside.. so it would be fine if he didnt start right away.. but the future would be harris, lee, t.will, FAVORS, lopez. lopez has become quite the offensive weapon lately.. and to pair him with an athletic defensive beast would make this a frontcourt duo to look out for in the future.

4 - Minnesota Timberwolves - Demarcus Cousins
al jefferson is their franchise player.. and to be honest.. hes not a center. he shouldnt be playing it. hes a natural 4. and when hes the 5 and love is the 4.. theyre very undersized.. yea i know they still prove to be effective rebounding wise.. but defensively it doesn't make much sense. to immediately make your franchise play better.. u need to put him in the right position. they could draft a wing player.. brewer came alive in the second half of the season.. but for the most part he is a question mark. wes johnson is a choice here too cuz he can run jump and shoot with the best of them.. but like i said.. big al should be built around.. sooo first things first.. get a decent center.

5 - Sacramento Kings - Wesley Johnson
this is a tough one.. they could use some pg help.. they just traded for dalembert but hes only got one year left on his contract.. soo if they want some insurance.. they should probably get a center just in case he doesnt work out or decides to bolt after a year. but after john wall.. the pg outlook isn't very pretty.. the best choice would be to go with the best player available (which is wesley) and try to make moves for a point guard. they need to build around tyreke evans. and he proved to be more effective at the 2. so a wingmate with wesley johnsons skills might not be a bad idea. draft johnson and then make moves for veteran help at the 1 and 5 positions.

Sixers Trade Analysis

first off... lemme just say congratulations to the lakers for winning a championship back to back.

second off.. i really could care less about the lakers or the celtics.. but that was a damn good series. i dont like either of them. butttttt... i do like ron artest, pau gasol, and ray allen. so thats the only reason i was rooting for the lakers.. lakers had less people that i hate.

anyway... so you may have heard that the sixers traded dalembert to the kings today. this is sort of a sideways progression..

strategy-wise... i can see what theyre going for.. dalembert's basketball IQ wasn't that great... neither were his hands.. if i had to guess.. even if it didn't result in a turnover.. it couldve resulted in a missed shot/opportunity... but he prolly averaged 2-3 miscues a game.. in the games i watched... whether it was not using both hands to catch a ball.. missing easy lay ups.. OFFENSIVE GOALTENDING.. DEFENSIVE GOALTENDING.. (those are in caps cuz those are my biggest gripes about him).

financially-wise... this didnt make any sense at all. this was dalembert's last contract year.. yet we traded him for 2 contracts.. 1 contract that still has 3 years on it.. andres nocioni is currently being overpaid and still has 3 years left on his.. noce plays the 3 and 4 positions.. currently we dont have enough spots for him.. iggy and young are going to be playing the 3 spot.. and not sure but i think they want to give kapono more time because at the end of this season, he started opening the lanes up for us.. then at the 4 we have: speights, brand, and young again.. im assuming theyre going to play jason smith more at the center position this next year. so already its pretty crowded at the positions he plays.. and we'll be paying him for those years. i understand picking up hawes.. cuz hes better offensively.. and a better passer than dalembert.. but noce brings up a minutes problem.

makes all the sense in the world for the kings but not for us. they wanted defense and rebounding.. thats wut they'll get.. plus noce didnt wanna play for them anymore.. soo they addressed it.

if the sixers draft derrick favors.. it makes less sense for this crowded 4 spot. unless they intend to play favors at the center more often. so again.. i hope they draft evan turner.. holiday, turner, and iguo already sounds like a good defensive perimeter trio.

i am hoping the sixers are looking into making another move. for the love of god get rid of willie green.. i ASSUME they traded for jodie meeks during the season to set them up for a willie green trade. that would relieve some salary cap space that is brought on from noce.
